New world order for peace

The growing unrest among the people of the world in almost all countries shows a deep-rooted yearning for a new world order. The present day institutions of the world suffer from rampant corruption, dictatorial tendencies, bureaucratic bottlenecks and an unbelievably slow legal system that fails to punish the guilty.

Inequalities and misery have forced the people of the world come out in thousands to give a message to their leaders that it is time for change. People are resolutely striving to establish a progressive society and are ready to bear pain in pursuit of this objective.

The world leaders, instead of merely remedying one symptom or the other by military force or political negotiations should consider the profound transformations that need to take place at all levels of human relationships.

A progressive society is the aim. Military force is not the answer. The guiding principle of order is justice. Justice, consultation, compassion and understanding of human oneness will help establish peace.

Co-travellers

You and me
Are together
In the train of life
Side by side
We sit
And watch
The changing scenario.
You comment
I agree
My observations
You applaud.
We are so alike
Almost
Like the parallel
Rail lines.
But
Running along
For miles and miles
Rail lines
Never meet
Except
Where the vision
Ends.

Autumn

Dead leaves fall
In heaps
From the aged Tree of Life
As greying hair do
From an old man's head;
Is it dying?
Its brittle old branches
Now Almost naked
Fully exposed
To the scorching sun
And dust-laden whirlwinds;
How long will it survive
Violent storms?
Day after day
Scavengers sweep
Carcasses of virtue,
Yellow leaves,
From the city's footpaths
Hoping tomorrow
Their number will decrease.
The roads are full though
Stacks of fallen leaves;
And, we, the half-living
Teeming millions
Children of decay
Born out of sin
Walk over
Emblems of glory
Of a bygone age;
Trample under foot
Unmindful of the suffering
Groans, creaks, squeaks
Of the meek of the earth.
No respite in sight
No place to bury these dead
Smouldering fires
Without heat
Ignited
All over the city;
Tall columns of smoke
Engulf the streets.
Burning odours
Crackling sounds
Dust storms;
The flowers,
Fruits in infancy,
All dropping dead.
Tears in the eyes
Ah, at last,
A few drops of rain.
Hopes are raised
The half dead tree might revive,
Or else
New life might sprout
A new cycle might start;
A new world from the fruits,
The seeds
Of the ancient tree
Might come into being.

Together, we must fight...

The fires that rise to skies
In hearts filled with hatred
Raze to ground
The edifice of human aspiration

No people of religion
Brutes lower than animals
Only perpetrate
Such crimes against humanity

Fight we must in the way of God
But transgress not
Defeat the forces of evil
Whether in the East or the West

To participate in Jihad
For conquest of self and corrupt desires
Struggle to stop retribalization
Of humankind by war

Now is the time in our sorrow
To sow the seeds of peace
Set an example in compassion
For the world to follow

Tear veils of ignorance
That blind the vision
Dispel dark impenetrable clouds
Give up prejudice for ever

To appreciate different races
Religions, tongues, and colors
As flowers of one garden
Not to hate, but to show love

The attack is on our humanity
Together we must fight
To defeat hatred and oppression
Establish the Most Great Peace

To lay down the foundations
Of a New World Order
Based on equality and justice
Make of earth a living paradise.

World Peace

The Great Peace towards which people of good will throughout the centuries have inclined their hearts, of which seers and poets for countless generations have expressed their vision, and for which from age to age the sacred scriptures of mankind have constantly held the promise, is now at long last within the reach of the nations. For the first time in history it is possible for everyone to view the entire planet, with all its myriad diversified peoples, in one perspective. World peace is not only possible but inevitable. It is the next stage in the evolution of this planet -- in the words of one great thinker, "the planetization of mankind".
2Whether peace is to be reached only after unimaginable horrors precipitated by humanity's stubborn clinging to old patterns of behaviour, or is to be embraced now by an act of consultative will, is the choice before all who inhabit the earth. At this critical juncture when the intractable problems confronting nations have been fused into one common concern for the whole world, failure to stem the tide of conflict and disorder would be unconscionably irresponsible.
(The Universal House of Justice, 1985 Oct, The Promise of World Peace, p. 1)
